Christian Formation Ministries
St. Luke's recognizes that Christian formation is a life-long process and offers a variety of opportunities for growth for all members. In addition to the opportunities listed, the Episcopal Diocese offers Christian Development Institute (CDI), Community of Hope, Safeguarding God's Ch
ildren, Diocesan Teen Retreat Opportunties, Camp Webb, and more.
Worship Center, age 4 to 2nd grade
Worship Center, which is offered during the school year on Sundays at 9:15 a.m. during the school year. The Worship Center is a wonderful, worship-based formational opportunity for the children of St. Luke's. Our children's first formational experience begins at age 4 and continues through 2nd grade. The curriculum is best defined as age appropriate liturgy of the word which includes prayers, singing, story telling and art response. Then, approximately 10:40 a.m. the children join their parish family for worship at the passing of the peace, and joining in the parish's full corporate celebration of Eucharist.
Upper Room, 3rd - 5th Grade
Upper Room provides a Worship Center learning opportunity for children in third, fourth and fifth grade and expands on the formational opportunity first offered in the Worship Center. It provides more in delpth education of bible stories, liturgical traditions of the Episcopal Chruch, and some discussion on values of caring for each other.
The Middlers Group, 7th and 8th Grade Youth
The Middlers group of children's Christian Education is for young people in 7th and 8th grade. The focus at this age group is primarily a continuum and more in depth discussion of the Bible, discussion on how to be a Christian, conflicts in our society values, and peer pressure in schools.
Eagles Group
Young people in grades 9 through 12th grade join the Eagles group. This group focuses on service to the parish family, community and look for opportunities for demonstrating Faith in Action.
Madison Episcopal Teens (MET)
The Madison Area Episcopal churches sponsor a youth group that meets the second Sunday of every month during the school year for food, games, activities and adventures. The meetings take place at various Episcopal churches at 6:00 PM.
Adult Christian Formation
Every Sunday a Bible Study group gathers between the services at 9:15 for the purpose of discussing the gospel reading of the day. Many people find that their Christian formation deepens through worship and prayer.
In addition to worship services, St. Luke's sponsors a Lenten Retreat and offers a series of shorter term classes. Currently we have a group studying Christian Healing, second Mondays 6:30-8:30 pm.
Another group listens to Contemporary Christian Music, Wednesdays 6:30-7:30 pm. A class preparing adults for Confirmation and Reception just concluded; another for teens is beginning.
We are host to the Madison-Area All Saints chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King. Other opportunities to grow are available on the city and diocesan level.
